A great template does most of the work for you, but shipping it unedited is easy to spot — visitors have seen the demo before, even if they can't place where. These five changes take a fraction of the original build time and are what actually make it yours.
Swap the type scale and accent color first, before touching anything else. Because a well-built template drives every component off shared tokens, this one change quietly reskins the entire site without you having to open a single section.
Placeholder headlines are written to demonstrate layout, not to sell anything. Replace every headline and CTA with your actual value proposition before you judge whether a section "works" — generic copy makes even a great layout feel hollow.
Stock photography is the fastest way for a visitor to recognize a template. Real product shots, real screenshots, or even a different crop and color grade on stock images goes a long way toward making the site feel built for you specifically.
It's easy to launch with the template's default page titles, meta descriptions, and social preview image still in place. Nobody sees this on the site itself, but everyone sees it the first time your link gets shared — check every page, not just the homepage.
Contact forms, newsletter signups, and checkout buttons often ship pointing at placeholder endpoints. Submit every form yourself before launch — a broken contact form is the single most common thing template buyers forget to check, and the easiest to miss until a real customer hits it.
